Street Appeal 1: The Lawn

Want to make a warm and inviting first impression with your home’s exterior? Here’s how to boost your curb appeal effortlessly!

Hello reader! Jo & Chas here with some valuable tips for making the most of selling your house!

We all know that the features of your home, such as square meterage, the number of bedrooms, and how nice it is on the inside, are super important when it comes to selling. However, there’s another factor that’s equally important – and it’s the first thing people see! That’s right, the outside of your house. We call it Street Appeal or Curb Appeal. It helps you set a positive impression and set the tone for how people think – and very importantly feel – about your home. So, welcome to our first blog post of Street Appeal!

Tip 1: Lawn Maintenance

Our first tip is to mow those lawns, pull out any visible weeds, and use the whipper snipper around the edges too. If you’ve ever walked around your neighbourhood and thought, ‘Oh, I wish my lawn looked like that,’ you’re not alone. Many people notice well-maintained lawns and feel an immediate positive impression. If potential buyers see a beautiful lawn without the need for extra effort, it significantly enhances the home’s street appeal and their first impression.

However, it’s important not to mow too deep, or you’ll turn an overgrown green lawn into a short brown one – and that’s no good! Also, when using the edger, make sure not to aim it anywhere but horizontal because you could cut a dirt streak into your lovely grass.

Tip 2: Proper Watering

To ensure your lawn is nice and green for photos and showing days, it must be kept watered – but not muddy. A good tip is to use a sprinkler. Take a plastic bottle, cut it about midway, and mark about 3cm up from the bottom. When the water level reaches that mark, that’s enough watering for that area, and you can move the sprinkler on.

Tip 3: Upgrade Your Mailbox

Finally, an easy win is to upgrade your mailbox. An updated mailbox that matches your house style looks good and sets the tone for your property’s overall appeal. It’s the first thing your viewers will walk past, so let’s help them imagine a nice little spot to grab their mail from – something that will add to their property’s value once they buy it.

There will be plenty more street appeal tips, so make sure to keep an eye out. Until then, you can give us a call for more advice, whether you’re selling or buying. Bye!
