Street Appeal 2: Pop It Away

Transform your home’s first impression by hiding the clutter and giving your driveway a sparkling clean!

Hello reader! Jo & Chas here with more tips for making the most of selling your house. This is our second blog in the Street Appeal series, all about improving that first impression people get from the outside of your home.

Tip 1: Hide the Rubbish Bins

Our first tip today, which is particularly important for your photos, is to hide the rubbish bins! You’ll want to place these out of sight, ideally down the side of your house. For your photos, it’s crucial that your viewers’ focus is on all the hard work you’ve put into making your lawn and the front of your house presentable. Unfortunately, our lovely councils have not yet figured out how to make bins attractive, so let’s make sure they’re hidden away.

Tip 2: Clear the Front Area

The same goes for anything else that may be out front—such as toys, balls, pet accessories—anything that might clutter the green space. If you’ve been preparing your lawn for sale, this includes hoses, sprinklers, lawnmowers, hose attachments, wheelbarrows, rakes, and brooms. Store all these items down the side or in the garage. Presenting a clean slate lets your viewers and buyers imagine their perfect use for your house, so let’s give them one.

Tip 3: Clean the Driveway, Footpath, and Windows

Finally, let’s clean away all the old grime and muck that may be on your driveway, the footpath in front of your house, and the windows. This is probably the most obvious but most important aspect of putting your house on display. Grab that gurney or high-pressure hose and give everything a good blast! Wipe down the windows and doors, and take a step back to street level to see if there’s anything on the roof or in the gutters that needs cleaning. This also makes the inside look nicer when looking out!
