Street Appeal 3: Freshen Up

Revamp your entrance with modern fixtures and a fresh coat of paint—small changes that make a big impact!

Hello reader! Jo & Chas here with some more tips for making the most of selling your house. This is our third blog in the Street Appeal series, all about improving that first impression people get from the outside of your home.

Tip 1: Update Your Light Fixture

Continuing our freshening-up tips, let’s take a look at that light fixture by your front door. If it hasn’t been updated in a while, replacing it with a modern design can really freshen up your entrance! Don’t overlook any peeling paint or broken fixtures; fixing these can be a simple weekend project that greatly enhances your home’s exterior. A bit of glue, a quick sand, and a two-coat repaint, and you’re done. This includes the front door too, which is super important for that first impression.

Tip 2: Repaint Your Front Door

Painting your door, whether it’s the same color redone or something unique, is an afternoon game changer. It’s quick, clean, and very effective—a great upgrade if your door is getting a bit old.

Tip 3: Upgrade Door Fixtures

This includes the fixtures on the front door too, like a knocker if you have one, the doorknob, and locks. A deadbolt lock is something many people consider essential, so that’s something you should get installed by a handyman, along with a few other improvements, or DIY if you can do it yourself!

Tip 4: Consider an Electronic Door Lock

A modern tip is an electronic door lock, which is becoming increasingly popular. An electronic deadbolt can be opened with a keycard, fob, or, most importantly, a 4 to 6-digit code that the homeowner sets. This is a great feature to have on your property—it eliminates the stress of being locked out because you can just enter your private key and don’t even have to take your keys with you when you leave the house.

Tip 5: Add a New Welcome Mat or Seasonal Wreath

Finally, a new welcome mat or a seasonal wreath can look fantastic! Little things go a long way in enhancing your home’s charm.
